Declaration & Exercise of the Week

Hi Everyone!!

This week’s declaration is based on Jeremiah 31:3 and is: God loves me with an everlasting love. He drew me with His unfailing love. I chose this verse because Valentine’s Day is approaching; and people tend to put unrealistic expectations on their spouses or significant others…..and then are disappointed when their expectations go unmet. The only unfailing love is Yeshua/Jesus. His love is not based on 1 day of the year; and it was a decision that He made……regardless of our choices and behaviors. God loves us period. He loves us because He chose to.  It is my hope that when people read and meditate Jeremiah 31:3, that they would get a revelation of the God kind of love…..as defined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

The exercise for this week is a half squat using a chair. It strengthens the glutes; which helps to prevent lower back, hamstring and knee injuries. Have an EXCELLENT rest of your week and I’ll see you around!

Declaration & Exercise of the Week

Hello All!

This week’s declaration is based on Hebrews 10:23: God is faithful. Meditate and speak this word to yourself to get it from your head into your heart. God is the most trustworthy being. He’s always there and His word never fails. I remember back in college when I lost my confidence in shooting the basketball for a period of three or four games. I don’t remember what caused it; but I do remember how I got out of it. For those three of four games, I did not take one shot. My coaches were frustrated; but very patient and encouraging with me. In the shoot around practice prior to my coming out of this drought; one of the assistant coaches worked with me for the entire practice. He told me that I had the green light and I was to shoot the ball every time it touched my hands. He didn’t care if I missed every shot.  After that shoot around, I went back to my room and read Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I spent the entire day thinking on this verse. I wrote it on the inside of my hands as a reminder. Needless to say, the shooting drought ended at that evening’s game. It was God’s promise that helped me overcome a fear that I had developed. What is one thing that God’s promise has helped you overcome?

This week actually includes three combinations of exercise for both upper and lowerbody: Alternating Squat with upright row, Alternating Lunge with Overhead Press, and Alternating Curtsey Lunge with Bicep Curls. Declaration & Exercise of the Week

Hello All!!!

I hope you’re having an EXCELLENT week! A friend dropped by today with a birthday cake made of watermelon, blueberries, whipped cream and toasted coconut for me. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! Every year, she brings cupcakes or cake to my home on my birthday. She told me today that she will always show up on my birthday with cake for me. She also told me that even though I was her boss, I came at such a pivotal time in her life; and that she had never met someone so positive, encouraging and smiley.  I hired her as a fitness instructor years ago. I thought she had a fabulous personality and such great potential. She was one of the most loyal and appreciative people that I’ve ever worked with. Even when I left that organization, she always stayed in contact. I praise God for the opportunity for not only being able to see her grow in her career; but also in her walk with Him; and as a wife and mother. She is a wonderful testimony of God’s purpose in our lives….no matter what our careers or ministries might be.

Ok, onward! This week’s declaration comes from James 1:22: I am a doer of the word. The exercise(s)  of the week is Hip Abduction and bicep curls to strengthen both the outer thighs and upper arm muscles. Give them a go and let me know how your body responds! Spiritual Nutrition

Hi Everyone!!!

I hope you all have had as great of a week as I have! I’ve been being spiritually fed by some great teachers. I’ve been in the Health & Wellness Industry for nearly 20 years; and many of us know that nutrition is an integral part of overall wellness. Eating healthy and organic foods strengthen our muscles, organs, brains, and various systems of the body. On the contrary, eating processed, gmo, chemical and pesticide laden food-like substances depletes our bodies of nutrients, wears down our immune systems and causes disease, among so many other things. It’s the exact same with spiritual food. My first question is: Are you eating? I’m sure you may have heard the adage: Seven days without the word makes one weak. Not communing with God or reading your scriptures is equivalent to spiritual anorexia. You’re starving your spiritual self to death. Matthew 6:11 says: Give us this day our DAILY bread. Notice the verse didn’t say give us our couple times a week; or monthly bread. Ephesians 6:10 states: Finally, be STRONG in the Lord and in His mighty power. Poor spiritual nutrition, does not produce strength.

My second question is: What are you eating? In the natural diet, the average American consumes about 17 grams of sugar a day; adding up to 57 lbs a year. The American Heart Association (AHA) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommend a maximum of 6 tsp of sugar a day for women and 9 for men. The problem with sugar and junkfood is that there is NOTHING nourishing in it. All you get are added calories, an addiction (more-than-likely) and disease. Let’s pause and think about this for a second. I’m consuming a counterfeit food-like substance that TASTES good and gives me an emotional high; while simultaneously adding ABSOLUTELY zero value to my body, and producing (preventable) diseases. Now let’s move this to the spiritual counterpart. What and who are you listening to and reading? Is it nourishing your inner(wo)man by building & strengthening you with spiritual nutrients; or is it just tasting/feeling good; but depleting you of health and adding disease to your inner(wo)man? In the grocery store, non-organic fruits are usually very shiney due to wax and other chemicals. Organic fruit, on the contrary, looks dull; but is more nutritionally dense than the waxy fruit. I heard a pastor say that this is how it is with our spiritual diets. The stuff without substance often looks good; but causes problems; while the stuff that looks dull, actually nourishes you. I couldn’t agree more.

If you’re looking at your life and you’re confused about who you are,  your relationships and environment is messy, you’re in debt up to your eyeballs and never seem to have enough money; or if you don’t know what your God-given purpose is, then this is a pretty good indicator that you’re spiritually malnourished. How do I get nourishment? I’m glad you asked! John 4:34 reads: My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. As you begin to pursue God and  spend time with Him daily, He’ll begin to show you things that you didn’t even know, you didn’t know. The Holy Spirit will guide you to the right church, relationships, etc. As you consistently spend time in His loving and wonderful presence, it will transform you and your life circumstances. Romans 12:2 says: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

In a nutshell, listen and talk to God daily (preferably throughout the day). Read the bible daily. Listen to faith building messages from leaders whose lives produce fruit. God bless you. Thank you for reading and have an excellent week!

Exercise of the Week – Small Ball Bridge

Great Morning Everyone!! This is the day that the Lord has made, and I WILL rejoice and be glad in it! This week’s exercise is the bridge using a small ball. This exercise strengthens your glutes, lower back and core. The verse and confession of the week is Isaiah 54:17- No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. When you get this verse down deep in your heart, you will realize just how invincible and unstoppable you are. God’s word is the ABSOLUTE truth…..regardless of our circumstances. You may be dealing with a sickness. That’s a fact; however the truth is that by His stripes, you are healed (1 Peter 2:24). You may be dealing with lack…another fact. The TRUTH is that God will supply ALL of your needs according to HIS riches and glory. Meditate the word (Philippians 4:19). It’s the way that Joshua was instructed, in order to obtain success (Joshua 1:8). In Genesis, we can see that God spoke the opposite of what initially appeared. He saw darkness, but spoke light. We were made in His image and likeness; and are therefore to imitate Him. If you’re dealing with any darkness in your life, speak light (the word of God). Have an excellent day!!

 

 

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness – Social

Social Wellness refers to our relationships and how we interact with other people. It involves good communication skills, respect for self and others, meaningful relationships and a good support system. According to a study by Umberson & Montez, relationships influence health through a process of reinforcing or inhibiting health-promoting or health-damaging behaviors over time. The bible is full of verses about all relationships. One of which is Proverbs 17:17, which says that a friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. Genesis 2:18 says the following: The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Our relationships are important, even from God’s perspective.

The bible gives some good standards for our various relationships.

  1. Husband & Wife relationship:Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 13:18 &19
  2. Children & Parents: Ephesians: 6: 1-3
  3. Fathers & Children: Ephesians 6:4
  4. Church family: Colossians 3:12- 14
  5. Friends: Proverbs 27:5 – 6; John 15:12-15
  6. Employer & employee: Colossians 3:23; Deuteronomy 15:10; Deuteronomy 24:14

Oftentimes our relationships are mirrors that reflect the inner-workings or hidden areas of our souls. The soul is like a magnet that draws our circumstances to us. If you find that your relationships have a common theme of joy and endurance, then I’m 99.999% sure that you have mastered 2 Corinthians 10:5; and Philippians 4:8. However, if you’re like many of us who are still learning to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and thinking on love and positive things; then take this opportunity to make a solid decision to begin healing these toxic thoughts, feelings and emotions that have habitually created less-than-desirable circumstances in your relationships. As children, we learned how to relate to others from our family members; as well as from teachers, friends, and other group members that we were associated with. If what we’ve learned was unhealthy or dysfunctional, we can change it. Healthy relationships are ours to enjoy; as well as a component of overall wellness.

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness – Environmental

Environmental Wellness is defined by SAMHSA as: “Good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support well-being.”  How are the environments that surround you? Are they pleasant, stimulating and orderly, or unpleasant, uninspiring and chaotic? There have been a number of published studies about the effect of environment of health. One of which was a 2010 study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, that measured the way women talked about their homes.  Those who characterized their homes as cluttered and brimming with unfinished projects, were at a higher risk of being depressed and exhausted, than women who described their homes as restful and restorative. What does the bible have to say about our environment? 1 Corinthians 14:40 says: But all things should be done decently and in order. Additionally, 1 Corinthians 14:33 states: For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.

When I read scripture, I like to analyze it and see how it presently applies to my life. I ask questions. What’s the consequence of things being done inadequately and disordered or messy? OR, If God is not a God of confusion (disorder, chaos, messiness), then WHO is? If God is a God of peace, and He’s always with me (Hebrews 13:5), then my environment should be one of peace, since it reflects my inner thoughts. Does anyone else think like this or is it just me? I understand that our homes, cars, etc. get out-of-order from time-to-time; but to living in perpetual state of clutter and disorganization is an invitation to address the root cause of this outer manifestation. We were designed to live in peaceful and orderly environments…..that’s why Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden. I’m pretty sure that it was a place of peace, order and pleasantness.

If you are a person who deals with a perpetually disordered environment, kudos to you for reading thus far. There is help and hope for you. In so many words, Albert Einstein said that you can’t solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it. Romans 12:2 says it like this: “…..be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Soooo, you have to  work on your thoughts….as well as a system for cleaning and keeping things in order. Set aside a few minutes daily to affirm yourself with Philippians 4:13 (I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me). You can keep your environments orderly by God’s strength within you. There are a plethora of cleaning schedules on Pinterest; as well as organization videos on YouTube. You can also hire a cleaning person/service and/or an organization expert to help you out.

The way that you take care of your environments is just as important as the way that you take care of your physical health, finances and the other five wellness dimensions. Blessings as you continue on your path in excellence!
